A timeless piece by Party Leader – Kelvyn Alp:
ANZAC Day was meant to honor the men who bled and died in the mud of Gallipoli, on the sands of North Africa, and in the jungles of the Pacific – ordinary New Zealanders and Australians who believed they were fighting so their children could live free. Yet each year the politicians hijack it. They stand at the dawn service in wreaths and solemn faces, invoking the sacrifice of the fallen to justify their own agendas, speaking grandly of the freedoms our soldiers died to protect. Meanwhile those same politicians erode the liberties the ANZACs supposedly secured: expanding surveillance, censoring dissent, centralizing power, and dismantling the way of life those men thought they were defending. The irony is bitter – we gather to remember sacrifice while the very freedoms bought with blood are being quietly usurped by the people holding the microphones.
